Rotary Unions
What is a rotary union and why is it important?
In general, Rotary Unions enable the sealed transfer of fluids from a rigid machine component to rotating (machine) parts. Especially in machine tools, the tools are often exposed to extreme loads. This means that the stress leads to a strong temperature development. Without appropriate cooling, the tool spindle and milling and cutting tools would become extremely hot. Rotary Unions are therefore of great importance for internally cooled tools. They ensure reliable transfer of cooling media to the rotating spindle shaft, from where it is passed on to the tool holder directly to the cutting edge of the tool. Cutting oils, air, cooling lubricants or MMKS are frequently used for this purpose. The coolant can be transferred via one or more hoses.

Integrated hybrid bearings, which have low coefficients of friction as well as a longer service life of grease, ensure long-lasting function at high speeds. This high life expectancy is supported by the use of labyrinth seals, which effectively protect the bearing from contamination. Installation of the rotary union is greatly facilitated by the 360° rotatable cooling lubricant connection.
