What is fluid technology?

Fluid technology stands for all processes in which energy is transferred by the flow of gases and liquids. Technical applications of fluid power include hydraulics (transmission of energy through hydraulic fluids) and pneumatics (transmission through compressed air).

The main difference between the two fluid technologies is the use of gases / air in pneumatics and fluid in hydraulics, respectively. While gases and air can be compressed and are therefore compressible, this does not work with fluids in hydraulics. They are therefore incompressible.

This results in various advantages and disadvantages of the two fluid technologies.

Advantages of the two fluid technologies

Among the advantages of hydraulics is the movement of extremely large forces, which is due to the use of incompressible fluids. Furthermore, the pressure created by the incompressible fluids and oils is distributed evenly throughout the system. As a result, the force gained is well controlled and can be precisely controlled. Hydraulic systems are also very durable. They are robust and have high durability in their function.

For one thing, pneumatics have the advantage of being much cleaner than hydraulics because air, not oils, is used to transmit power. In addition, pneumatic systems are less complex, which not only facilitates assembly, but at the same time speeds up the replacement of motors or tools. In addition, high flow rates can be achieved with the help of pneumatics.
